A beautiful mountain market town

Barcelonnette is a beautiful mountain market town, boasting a rich heritage and an impressive selection of restaurants, hotels, shops and activities. The narrow streets have an Italian feel and virtually every road ends in a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. The twice weekly market provides the opportunity to buy fresh local produce and specialities.

The largest of the Ubayen settlements, Barcelonnette is home to around 3500 people.  It is situated on the banks of the Ubaye river and is the centre of the Valley is terms of shopping and services, it is a delightful mixture of holiday destination and working town. Thanks to tourism Barcelonnette boasts a range of services far beyond those expected for a town of this size and the locals and tourists alike benefit from a cinema, bowling alley, dozens of restaurants and bars, a swimming pool, riding centre and golf course. 

Barcelonnette has four good-sized supermarkets and a wide variety of small food shops such as butchers, bakers and patisseries as well as several speciality shops selling local produce such as cheese and cured meats. There is a post office, several banks with cash machines and an internet centre. The town square is a WIFI hotspot, offering free internet access.

The town has a direct bus service to Gap and Digne les Bains, from where connections can be made for larger cities such as Marseille or Grenoble.

There are a numerous restaurants and bars, and several traditional pizza chalets offering a takeaway service.
Barcelonnette has several doctors and other healthcare professionals such as physiotherapists and dentists.
There is a wide range of accommodation and several campsites within walking distance of the town centre.
